Golf, the Game of Many

On beautiful Sunday summer afternoons you can’t help but enter the game of golf into any discussions. And when we speak of golf, exactly what are we talking about. It’s a wondrous game played outdoors where the object of the game is to knock a small dimpled ball into a series of 18 holes where the low score wins. 18 holes of golf consist of a “round” of golf and you begin playing each hole from a designated mound of grass called a tee-box. This is the only area you can put your ball on a “tee” so as to elevate it up off the ground to make it easier to hit.

Each hole varies in distance from tee-box to “green” which is where the designated hole is placed. A pre-determined score is given for each hole for the number of strokes it should take the average person to get… Continue reading

How to Find the Perfect Golf Course

Playing golf is fun, but playing golf on a fantastic course makes the game much more enjoyable. However, good courses are difficult to find, especially if the player does not know what to look for in a good golf course. The following is a guide to helping golfers find the perfect course for their golf game.

1. KNOW YOUR GOLFING ABILITY

It is imperative to know your ability as a golfer. If you are a beginner (25 handicap or greater), you should not play golf courses such as Torrey Pines in San Diego. While a course such as this might be enjoyable scenery, it is well above your skill level. As a result, you will not enjoy the round. At the same time, your playing partners (if they are more advanced than you) will not enjoy the round either because you will be holding up the pace of play. Likewise,… Continue reading

Big, brand name sports equipment manufacturers spend a lot of money on advertising in order to persuade the unknowing customer that they have the best clubs and balls and equipment for you.

They get your favorite sports stars to endorse their products making them look like an even more lucrative bargain. However, every one is not a Tiger Woods and will not require the kind of equipment he uses from day one of learning to golf.

Using the driver that… Continue reading

Why Golf is Good Exercise

Is Golf A Good Form Of Exercise?

We all realize that we should exercise. Some people even like doing it, but unfortunately for society and most of us in it, the majority of us cannot be bothered to get off their backsides, which is why the populations of Western countries are turning to lard before our very eyes. This is a shame not only for the people concerned but for the tax-payers who have to refill the public coffers in order to take care of them when they get sick.

So, how can we motivate ourselves to take more exercise? Clearly government health warnings are merely benefiting marketing agencies and the media, so what else? Perhaps, they could tell us: ‘Play tennis once a week, you will enjoy that vodka a whole lot more afterwards!’. Or ‘Play a round of golf first and that G&T will taste better!’ Or: ‘Walk… Continue reading

Finding Quality Golf Club Makers

While any sporting goods store offers a variety of golf clubs direct off the rack, golfers who desire more from their equipment may want to consider having a custom-made set from any number of quality golf club makers.

Many golf club makers originally got their start by altering a set of golf clubs they purchased or even attempting to fashion their own. Consequently, they know the specifics and factors involved in manufacturing a good set of clubs and custom fitting them to a golfer’s particular body style and play.

Most pro shops at a golf course can fit you with a set of clubs. Depending on the extent of the fitting, expect it to take anywhere from 15 minutes to over an hour while the average length of time should be about half an hour.

The Best Deals

You may think you cannot afford a set of custom-made golf clubs.… Continue reading

What makes a great golf course?

One sure way to know if a golf course is at par with international standards is if it has accreditation from United States Golf Association (USGA). This group has established a set of guidelines which all golf courses must meet in order to be accredited. Of course, credible golf designers and architects are all aware of these standards and follow them for the most part.

Good courses are characterized by having well manicured fairways and greens. They also need to have… Continue reading
